Archived Altaria Deck ListsAltaria deck guide: Bench, Sleep and evolution decisions
Altaria deck: choose the attack plan before the partner
A Mega Altaria ex deck starts with a simple board question: how many Pokémon can you keep on your Bench when you attack? Mega Harmony costs two Psychic Energy, starts at 40 damage and adds 30 for each of your Benched Pokémon. With one, two or three Pokémon there, the printed calculation is 70, 100 or 130 before other effects. An Altaria deck cannot count its Active attacker as a Benched Pokémon. Move a Pokémon forward, lose a Bench Pokémon or leave an empty place and that calculation changes immediately.
The Altaria deck comparison above separates actual defining partners. Espeon offers a one-Energy attack that inflicts Sleep; Greninja offers damage from an Ability and requires a longer evolution line. They do not solve the same turn. Before choosing an Altaria build, compare the opening Basic, the first legal attack and the attacker available after a retreat. The largest Altaria list sample is a reference for testing, not a promise of the highest win rate. Open the selected full list and keep its exact quantities beside you.
Altaria deck evolution: preserve a Swablu and a usable Bench
Mega Altaria ex is a Stage 1 evolving from Swablu. The B1 Swablu has Sing, a Colorless-cost attack that puts the opposing Active Pokémon Asleep. It does not deal the large attack damage of the evolution. An Altaria deck opening with Swablu must plan for the turn before it evolves, rather than assuming the Mega is already in play. Follow ordinary evolution timing: a Pokémon cannot evolve on its first turn in play, and having an evolution card in hand does not bypass that restriction.
Practice an Altaria deck opening in which the evolution is missing. Decide which Basic can take the Active position, where the first Energy goes and whether committing another Swablu is useful. Benching a Pokémon increases potential Mega Harmony damage, but exposes another target and uses one of only three Bench places. An Altaria build should fill its Bench with cards it can use. Ordinary Altaria A4a-055 and Mega Altaria ex B1-102 are different printed cards; the Altaria deck theme here is the Mega, not every list containing the ordinary species.
Altaria deck with Espeon: Sleep buys chances, not certainty
Espeon B3a-020 evolves from Eevee. Hypnoblast costs one Psychic Energy, deals 40 damage and makes the opposing Active Pokémon Asleep. This Altaria deck route can attack before the Mega has two Energy. Sleep remains uncertain because checks and effects can remove it; it is not a guaranteed skipped turn. An Altaria deck player should calculate what happens if the opponent wakes up immediately, rather than spending all resources on the best possible result.
Darkrai B2b-040 has Bad Dreams, which deals 20 damage at the end of each turn when the opposing Active Pokémon is Asleep. It is not the Darkrai ex card with an attachment-triggered Ability. In this Altaria build, check the exact version before treating a card as interchangeable. The Altaria list includes several Basics that can fill the Bench, but their position still matters: an exposed support Pokémon can become a liability. Use the full Altaria deck list to distinguish an intended support line from a card merely seen in aggregate usage.
Altaria deck with Greninja: count setup and Ability damage separately
Greninja A1-089 evolves from Frogadier and has Water Shuriken. Once during your turn, that Ability can deal 20 damage to one opposing Pokémon. Its attack costs Water and Colorless Energy, whereas Mega Harmony needs Psychic Energy. An Altaria deck can use the Ability without paying the attack cost; that does not mean a Psychic-only Energy plan can use Greninja’s attack. Check the selected Altaria list and its Energy configuration before assuming both attackers are available.
The Greninja Altaria build needs its own evolution pieces and a place on the Bench. Compare the turn when Water Shuriken becomes usable with the turn when a simpler partner attacks. For an undamaged target, a full-Bench Mega Harmony plus one successful 20-damage Ability gives a printed total of 150 before reductions and other effects. That is a calculation, not a guaranteed knockout. In an Altaria deck test, record whether you drew the required evolution pieces and whether the target survived or moved before the attack.
Altaria deck Energy: two Psychic symbols still need two attachments
The attack costs printed on cards are separate from their Pokémon types. An Altaria deck needs two Psychic Energy on its Mega to use Mega Harmony. Filling the Bench increases damage but does not pay that cost. An Espeon attack spends the turn’s attack without attaching extra Energy to the Mega. A Greninja Ability does not consume the attack, but drawing and evolving Greninja still consumes deck space and setup time. Compare Altaria variants using a real sequence of turns, not only a finished board.
Mega Altaria ex has a printed Retreat Cost of one. A retreat can therefore spend Energy you expected to use for the next attack. Before moving the Active, inspect any applicable tools or field effects and calculate the resulting cost. An Altaria deck with two Energy on the Mega may lose its next attack after a paid retreat. Try the same Altaria build from an opening where the Mega stays on the Bench until ready. Record the first attack turn, the remaining Energy and the replacement attacker instead of judging only the final damage number.
Altaria deck trainers: read adoption as lists, then read copies
The trainer column above combines current Altaria lists and counts how many lists included each card. It does not add archived samples and does not mean that a deck contains that many copies. A card used in every Altaria deck can still have different quantities in different submissions. Open the complete card grid before copying a build, then compare your collection with the exact printed IDs. Keep the two-copy limit in mind when replacing a card with equivalent artwork.
Change one trainer decision at a time when testing an Altaria deck. Replacing draw support, a switching card and a defensive option together makes it hard to identify why the next opening changed. Record which card was missing when the Altaria build could not evolve or attack. A high adoption count can help you choose what to inspect first, but it cannot prove that a particular flex slot is mandatory. Keep the full Altaria list as the baseline and write down your replacement rather than silently treating it as the same tournament sample.
Altaria deck defence: the Mega exposes all three points
A knocked-out Mega Evolution Pokémon ex gives the opponent three points. Mega Altaria ex has 190 printed HP and Metal Weakness, so one knockout can end the game even if your Altaria deck has already taken points. Do not treat a filled Bench or a sleeping opponent as proof that the Mega is safe. Calculate the opponent’s reachable damage, any existing damage and applicable effects before promoting the Mega. A useful Altaria build has a plan for the turn when attacking with the Mega would immediately lose.
Compare Altaria deck choices from the same awkward position: the Mega needs one more Energy, your Bench is not full and the opponent threatens a knockout. Espeon’s low-cost attack and Greninja’s Ability create different decisions, and neither is guaranteed to rescue that state. The Altaria deck matchup table only shows sufficiently observed pairings. A missing opponent row means insufficient displayed evidence, not an easy matchup. Keep games beside win rates and avoid ranking an Altaria variant from a tiny sample or one memorable win.
Altaria deck history: keep versions and evidence dated
The current Altaria deck section is derived from the accepted tournament window. The archive below preserves retired defining builds with their Registry last-seen dates and full-list links. Those dates describe observation in this dataset, not the last match ever played with the deck. An archived Altaria list is useful for studying a former partner, but its old results do not belong in today’s trainer adoption, ranking or matchup total. Check its visible status before copying an old example.
Before crafting an Altaria deck, open its complete 20-card grid, inspect the Energy plan and follow the Card links for versions you do not own. Test a missed evolution, an empty Bench place, an immediate wake-up and the loss of a support Pokémon. Save notes for the precise Altaria build you used. When the window changes, the Altaria deck comparison will reorder and move retired builds automatically; this guide explains the decisions to test, while the current sample counts and archived labels supply the dated evidence.
