Charizard deck guide: choose the version and protect the next attack

Charizard decks start with the printed version

A Charizard deck can mean several very different projects. Mega Charizard Y ex B1a-014 uses Crimson Dive for 250 damage and also deals 50 damage to itself. Mega Charizard X ex B2b-009 uses Raging Blaze for 100 damage, adding 80 when its remaining HP is 110 or less. Both are Stage 2 Pokémon evolving from Charmeleon, but their attacks ask different questions. A Charizard deck built around the Y version needs to prepare a large attack and survive its recoil; a Charizard build using X needs to consider its remaining HP without assuming the opponent will leave it alive.

The Charizard deck comparison separates defining versions and partners from incidental cards. A list containing both Mega versions is one stable build, not two independent tournament samples. Ordinary Charizard, Genetic Apex Charizard ex and Shining Revelry Charizard ex also appear in this species history. Check the printed set and number before buying a card or copying a list. The largest Charizard deck sample tells you what was most observed in this window; it does not establish that version as your best ladder choice.

Keep a Charmander available for the second attacker

A Stage 2 Charizard deck needs a Basic in play before its evolution line matters. Choose your opening Charmander, preserve a usable Charmeleon route and check whether the selected list includes Rare Candy. Rare Candy changes how an eligible evolution can be reached; it does not remove every timing restriction. Read the linked card text before relying on it. A Charizard list that spends its only Basic as an early sacrifice can hold a powerful evolution in hand without a legal Pokémon to evolve.

Practice a Charizard deck hand with the final evolution missing, then repeat with the middle evolution missing. Decide which Pokémon takes the Active position and which one receives the next Fire Energy. A second Charmander can preserve a future attacker, but the Bench has only three places and each extra Pokémon is another possible target. In a Charizard build with two different final evolutions, the evolution you choose now determines which attack is available later. Do not assume that every same-name card can be substituted without changing that sequence.

Mega Charizard Y decks: count the recoil before attacking

Crimson Dive costs three Fire Energy and one Colorless Energy. Its 250 printed damage is separate from the 50 damage dealt to Mega Charizard Y ex itself. A Charizard deck turn should therefore include two calculations: whether the opposing Pokémon is Knocked Out, and how much HP remains on your own attacker. Damage modifiers, protection and existing damage can change the result. Read the board before treating the printed number as a guaranteed knockout or a safe way to finish the game.

The Entei ex Charizard deck is a distinct observed route; its partner name does not prove that every player uses identical support cards. Open the full Charizard deck grid to inspect the quantities and Flame Patch B1-217. Flame Patch attaches a Fire Energy from the discard pile to your Active Fire Pokémon. It needs both a discarded Fire Energy and the correct Active target. It cannot directly charge a Benched replacement. In this Charizard build, check which attacker is Active when you use it, and account for any retreat cost before assuming that recovery pays for the next attack.

Mega Charizard X decks: the low-HP bonus is conditional

Raging Blaze costs three Fire Energy. The extra 80 damage checks whether Mega Charizard X ex has 110 HP or less remaining; it is not an unconditional 180-damage attack. A Charizard deck cannot assume that reaching the threshold will be safe. The opposing Pokémon may Knock Out the attacker before you can use the bonus. Compare the damage you need now, the damage your opponent can deliver next and the three-point Mega knockout rule before deliberately accepting another hit.

The combined Mega X and Mega Y Charizard deck keeps both attack plans in one observed archetype. Their shared evolution stage does not mean the two cards are interchangeable on every turn. Choosing a four-Energy Y attack instead of a three-Fire X attack changes preparation and the following turn. Use the selected Charizard list to check the number of each final evolution and the supporting cards. A representative one-copy slot is a starting allocation from the sample; it does not prove that every player registered exactly one copy of that card.

Charizard ex decks: separate Crimson Storm from Stoke

Genetic Apex Charizard ex A1-036 has Crimson Storm, an attack that discards Fire Energy. Shining Revelry Charizard ex A2b-010 has its own printed attacks and a different preparation plan. A Charizard deck search result that only says “ex” is therefore incomplete information. Verify the card ID before importing an older list. The classic Moltres ex route uses Inferno Dance coin flips to attach Energy to Benched Fire Pokémon; it does not make the number of successful attachments certain.

An archived Charizard ex deck can explain an older Energy timetable without being a current recommendation. Open its dated full list, check the precise evolution and compare its support cards with the current routes above. Do not transfer the old Moltres plan into a Mega Charizard deck merely because both use Fire Energy. A Charizard build that discards Energy after attacking needs recovery; a Mega Y list must instead account for recoil and its printed cost. These are different reasons to prepare a replacement attacker.

Ordinary Charizard lists change the point trade

The ordinary C1-018 Charizard is a different printed card from either Mega and from Charizard ex. A Charizard deck using the ordinary version must be evaluated from its own card text, Energy plan and complete list. It does not become a Mega build because the species name is the same. The Ho-Oh ex route and the Mega Y plus ordinary Charizard route are separate observed combinations. Check which Pokémon actually attacks in your proposed opening before deciding which combination fits your collection.

A Mega Evolution Pokémon ex gives the opponent three points when it is Knocked Out. In a three-point game, exposing that attacker can decide the entire result. A Charizard list containing a non-Mega option offers a different card to consider, but does not guarantee a favorable exchange or make the other Pokémon harmless to lose. For a Charizard deck test, write down the opponent’s current points, which Pokémon could be forced Active and whether another attacker is ready. A large damage number is not useful if the opponent wins before your next attack.

Read Trainer adoption before changing a Charizard deck

The single Trainer column combines the current Charizard deck samples. Its numerator is the number of submitted lists containing a card, not the total copies of that card. A Trainer included in every list can still appear at different quantities. Use the representative Charizard deck grid for a practical twenty-card starting point and use adoption to understand which choices were widespread. Neither number proves that a low-frequency card is a direct replacement for another card in your own list.

Poké Ball, Professor’s Research and Flame Patch perform different jobs: finding a Basic, drawing cards and recovering a discarded Fire Energy onto an eligible Active target. Removing one changes the corresponding part of a Charizard deck turn. Start collection checks with the actual evolution line and attack costs, then inspect the support cards you lack. Test the same Charizard build over several openings with a missing evolution, an unavailable recovery target and an awkward Active Pokémon. Record the failed step before changing a slot, rather than treating the largest tournament sample as a fixed recipe.

Copy the list with its date and its evidence

Each displayed Charizard deck is a twenty-card representative list allocated from average copies across the tracked tournament sample. It may not match any single player’s original submission. The sample count describes the archetype’s evidence, not the number of people who played this precise assembled list. Keep that distinction when sharing a Charizard deck or comparing card quantities. The full-list page carries the same explanation so the limitation remains visible after you leave the species page or follow an archived example.

The current Charizard deck section follows the accepted tournament window. Historical entries retain an archive label, a Registry last-observed date and their full-list links; they do not contribute to current Trainer adoption or matchup results. A last-observed date is not proof of the final tournament ever played with that build. Before copying a Charizard list, check its status, printed versions and Energy configuration. After a window update the comparison can reorder automatically. Use the dated samples to choose a testable route, then return to the individual card text for the exact rules.
